Our most recent poll shows that a majority of people do not know what insurance products are compulsory when taking on a mortgage.

The majority of people did not vote for the correct option, being buildings insurance (only) totalling 20% of voters.

Whilst 14% of people who voted think that only contents insurance is required.

The correct answer to our poll is buildings insurance only and this means that you only have to take out buildings insurance when taking on a mortgage.

This is not really a great concern as your mortgage adviser should be informing you of this fact when applying for a mortgage anyway.

70 people voted in our poll which took just over a month to complete. But considering all of our web site visitors are interested in mortgage products one way or another, you would expect the majority of results to reflect the correct answer.

Does this mean we are out of touch with our financial obligations? With debt continuing to spiral we can only assume the general population do not have a true grasp of their mortgage obligations.

Our current poll asks whether you need to provide proof of your income when applying for a mortgage. This poll will be complete by the end of November 2006 at which point we will have a better picture about whether the general population do have a grasp of their financial obligations or not.
